Alice Rushing, 94 of Tylertown, MS passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born Sunday, September 9, 1928 in Copiah County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church at 886 MS-27, Tylertown, Mississippi. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM until funeral services at 11:00 AM at Salem Baptist Church in Tylertown, Mississippi. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery. Rev. Mark Wicker will officiate. Capps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alice moved to Walthall County when she was 15 years old to further her education. She graduated from Marion Walthall as salutatorian. Mrs. Rushing worked at Haspel until they closed then Multicraft until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Salem Baptist Church and served in many church activities. Daily she would pray for her family and read her bible. She was a true example of a devoted Christian mother. Her pride and joy was her great grandson, Tripp Ward. As long as she was able, she watched every baseball game he played near or far. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, and traveling with her family. Mrs. Alice will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Ethern Rushing; father Warren A Smith, Sr; mother Viola Bernita Barker Crawford; brothers Vernon Lewis Cooper and George Cooper; and son-in-law Neal Ward.

Survivors include her son James Elbert Rushing (Karen); daughter Bernita Ann Ward; grandsons Chad Ward, Cody Ward, and Heath Alford; great grandson Tripp Ward; sisters Dorothy Strickland, Christene Morgan, and Betty Smith; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
