Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Lewis Holmes, 89, of Tylertown, will be held at 10 A.M on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Lexie with the Elders Lonnie Mozingo, Jr. and Rickey Meyers officiating. Burial will be in the Rushing Cemetery.
Mrs. Holmes passed away at Billdora Senior Care Center in Tylertown, Mississippi on Saturday, April 28, 2018. She was born December 24, 1928 in Walthall County, Mississippi to the late W.T. "Tab" and Ella Hall Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Carey Holmes, Sr.; six sisters and their husbands Avis and Olin Holmes, Dollie and Edgar Rush, Bessie and Edward Lott, Geneva Lewis, Eula and Newton Holmes, Ina Sue and Gene Wilson; two brothers A. B. Lewis, and J. C. and Helen Lewis; and one granddaughter Lisa Boyd Ard.
She was a member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church and had been a seamstress at Haspel's for 21 years and then at other factories until she retired. She enjoyed making quilts and giving them to her family and friends. Mrs. Holmes also enjoyed gardening, flower gardening, and reading.
Survivors include her 6 children and their spouses, Louise and Mitch Boyd of Tylertown, Jim and Anne Holmes of Springfield, Missouri, Shirey and David Burris of Salem, West Virginia; Willie Mae and Jerry Holmes of Jayess, Richard and Judy Holmes of McComb, and Nettie and Bill Johnson of Tylertown; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jimmy Graves, Norman Hammon, Jerry N. Holmes, Benny Holmes, Adam Nettles and James Nettles.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Ray Nettles, Jewell Nettles, Darryl Broom, John Ivan Rush and Paul Etheridge.
Visitation will be at Capps Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P. M.
