Brenda Barron Martin, 80, of Tylertown, MS, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. She was born October 20, 1945, in Tylertown, MS, to the
late Walter “Ike” and Irma Rushing Barron. Along with her parents she is also preceded in
death by her husband, Ralph Martin, and three brothers Harold Barron, Leroy Barron, and
Charles Barron.
Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Dawn Dunaway Peterson (John) and
Raven Dunaway Wilson (Landon); grandchildren Sydney Byrd (Ryan), Garrett Peterson,
Mason Wilson, and Evan Wilson; great grandchildren, Maverick Byrd and Aniston Byrd;
along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
Mrs. Brenda was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by service, dedication, and
love. In 1978, she began her nursing career, devoting 33 years to caring for others with
compassion and kindness. She broke barriers as the first woman to serve as a deputy at
the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office, was honored as Miss Hospitality of Walthall County in
1964, and faithfully served her community as the city clerk for the Town of Tylertown.
Brenda embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved traveling, camping at the
Franklinton Fair, clogging, and square dancing—activities that reflected her vibrant spirit
and love for fellowship. A proud patriot, she held a deep appreciation for the red, white,
and blue.
Above all, Brenda’s greatest joy was her family. She dearly loved her children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and treasured every moment spent with them. Her
legacy is one of strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion, and she will be remembered
by all who knew her with deep love and admiration.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Tylertown Baptist Church, 409 Tyler
Ave., Tylertown, MS 39667, from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM with Bro. Justin
