Obituary

Graveside services for former Walthall County Tax Assessor /Collector Louie Fortenberry, 79, of Tylertown, MS will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Tylertown Cemetery with Brother Wayne Hall officiating

Mr. Fortenberry passed away at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. He was born July 11, 1941 in Darbun, Mississippi to the late Lela and Tillie Fortenberry. He was also preceded in death by his infant son Jeffery Allen Fortenberry; and two sisters Joanne Owens and Marilyn Stinson.

Mr. Louie served as the Walthall County Tax Assessor/Collector from 1988-2007. He was a longtime member of the Gideon's International. Louie served as a deacon at Tylertown Baptist Church and led the jail ministry for the county.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Peggy Fortenberry; children Leisha Fortenberry and Jimmy (Jennifer) Fortenberry, granddaughter Charlotte (Eric) Bardwell; sisters Arlene (Charles) Pigott and Bonnie Grubbs; brother Billy Don (Judy) Fortenberry; daughter of the heart Mary Helen Fortenberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

Pallbearers are Max Stinson, Michael Grubbs, Cory Grubbs, Doyle Ball, Dewayne Ervin, and Jerry Turner.

Honorary pallbearers are Darbun Rook Club.
