Chim Stogner, age 75, passed away in Gulfport on 7/02/2026. He was born September 26, 1950, in Tylertown, MS.
Memorial Service will be at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, 412 Beulah Avenue in Tylertown, MS on Saturday July 18th. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am at Hartman-Hughes and the Memorial Service will follow at 11:00.
Chim was proceeded in death by his parent’s Olson and Helen Stogner and by his sister Judy Staggs, as well as, by Grandparents Chalmers and Bertha Stogner and Brother Fred and Mamie Applewhite. He is survived by his Brother-in-Law Dr. David Staggs, nephew Jody Staggs, wife Ashley and daughter Catherine, Jenna Staggs Wertz and children Truitt and Tucker and by niece Jamie Staggs and her children Riley, Carson and Everette. He is survived by many other family members and friends.
Chim graduated from Tylertown High School and Southwest MS Community College. He was a teacher, coach and businessman. He lived and worked at Hampton High School in Virginia and Suffolk schools after graduating from Virginia Tech. He lived for several years in Hattiesburg, was a USM graduate, lived in Tylertown and resided in Gulfport MS most recently. He also coached and taught at Petal, at Hattiesburg Prep and at South Panola High School. He was a member of Hattiesburg United Methodist Church, Oxford, MS University UMC and Tylertown Baptist Church during stays at those cities.
Chim enjoyed being active in school, church, community and business activities. In Hattiesburg, he coached Dixie Youth Baseball, was former Vice President of the Hattiesburg USM Metro Alumni Association, was on the Board of the Oak Grove Athletic Booster Club and was on the Aldersgate Board at Hattiesburg UMC. He was owner of Market South Fundraising. He was named Phi Beta Kappa Mississippi Businessperson of the year in 1990. In Hampton, VA he coached on championship football and baseball teams and was on the State Baseball Committee of the VA High School League. Stogner was an officer of the Peninsula District Coaches Association. While at Virginia Tech he was the head of the Football Staff at the VA Tech Sports Camp. He was also a co-captain of his High School and Southwest MS Community College Football teams.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Walthall County Regional Museum.
