Obituary

Dewey Roy Martin, 88, entered fully in to the presence of the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2023 at his home in Tylertown, MS. He was born on March 4, 1934, to Rufus and Rhoda Martin and lived in the Salem Community north of Tylertown. He was a longtime active member of Tylertown Baptist Church.

Dewey is survived by his wife and helpmate for the last 65 years, Patricia Kaye (Southern) Martin. He is also survived by his children: Brenda Martin (Dave) Hrivnak of Kingsport, TN, and Wayne Charles (Laura) Martin Sr. of Lake Arrowhead, GA. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Kirk L. Hrivnak, Wayne Charles (Mariah) Martin Jr., Brian H. Hrivnak, Jared G. (Ryan) Martin and Margaret A. Martin; and 5 great grandchildren: Rylan, Christopher, Sutton, Wayne and Olivia. He is survived by one sister, Louise.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Rhoda Lee (Boyd) Martin and siblings Nelson, Lola, Jane, Frank and Adeline "Patty".

Dewey attended Salem School and enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He met his wife in San Rafael, CA, while stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base. They lived in California 11 years before moving back to Tylertown. Dewey and Pat owned several businesses over the years with the primary one being Dewey's Dairy Equipment. Dewey installed and repaired equipment in dairies in the day when Walthall County was known as the "Cream Pitcher of Mississippi." Pat was the office manager of all their business ventures.

Dewey's Christian faith was an essential part of his life. His actions were driven by his desire to "bear fruit" as commanded in Colossians 1:10 "Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." He instructed his family to simply say, "He did stuff" in his obituary. It's important to understand, however, that his leading of mission trips and projects, helping in the community and meeting the needs of individuals (especially people overlooked or ignored by others) were all done for the glory of God.
