Obituary

Donald Ray Rushing, 93 of Tylertown, MS passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025 at the Aston Court Retirement Community in McComb, MS. He was born Sunday, November 15, 1931 to the late Cecil Crawford Rushing and Billie Griffin Rushing. Along with his parents his is also preceded in death by his son, Mike Rushing; brothers, Cecil Rushing and William "Bill" Rushing.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, 412 Beulah Ave., Tylertown, MS. Visitation will also be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 1:00 PM until funeral service at 2:00 PM at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home with Reverend Austin Hoyle officiating. Burial will follow in Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown, MS. Hartman Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rushing served in the United States army after WWII and played his drum in the army marching band. He spent his professional career as the West Point High School principal for 30 plus years until his retirement. Mr. Donald was a man of great faith and a member of the Church on Beulah. As a natural outdoorsman he used his many talents as an American Boy Scout leader where he received the highest award given the "Sliver Beaver" for impacting so many youths' lives through his given council. Mr. Donald leaves behind numerous cherished memories with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years Anne Hunt Rushing; daughter, Donna Rushing; grandson, Sam Rushing (Samantha); granddaughter, Brandy Johnson (Denny); great grandchildren, Karley Johnson, Kathrine Brumfield, Michael Brumfield, Austin Sullivan, and Madi Purvis (Kade); great great-grandchildren, Lynlee Brumfield and Maxwell Purvis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

Pallbearers will be Sam Rushing, Denny Johnson, Michael Brumfield, Zach Lewis, Eli Strickland, and David Rushing.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Keith Speed, Norman Hammond, and James R. Sanderson.
