Dorothy Nettles Willis

October 1, 1923 – July 5, 2020

Dorothy Willis was born September 26, 1923 and died July 5, 2020.  Preceded in death by Charles McDonald Willis, husband, and brother, Lee Nettles.  Survivors include: daughter Suzanne Miyabe (Jim) of Los Angeles, California, daughter Patricia Willis of Canton, Mississippi, son Albert W. Willis II (Becky) of Cookeville, Tennessee, and daughter JoAnne Rawls (Artie) of Tylertown, Mississippi.

Dorothy had 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was born in Tylertown, Mississippi but grew up in New Orleans where she attended Sophie B. Wright School.  She later graduated from Louisiana State University where she earned a B.S. in Physical Education and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority.

Dorothy married Charles after WWII on April 5, 1946 in New Orleans.  They made their home in Tylertown where they worked together in the family business, Willis Hardware and Furniture Company, until they retired in 1978.  Dorothy was an active member of the Tylertown United Methodist Church, the Community Club, Garden Guild, Friends of the Library, and always loved playing Bridge.

Dorothy had a generous spirit, love of family, and a welcome mat at her home for her children's friends.  She made church an important part of her children's lives, encouraged them for their love of music, and was known for her boundless energy.

The family asks that all gifts be donated in her memory to the Tylertown United Methodist Church.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.
