Funeral Services for Mr. Emmette Luter, 73, were held at 11 A. M. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Tylertown Baptist Church with Reverend Justin Knight, Reverend Buddy Day, and Dr. Byron Harbin officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Tylertown.
Mr. Luter passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born June 11, 1944 to the late Hosea Davis and Ruth Bacot Luter. A 1962 graduate of Tylertown High School, Mr. Luter received his B. S. Degree in 1968 from Mississippi State University where he was commissioned through the ROTC program. During his four years in the U. S. Air Force, Captain Luter also served as Missile Combat Crew Commander in SAC, and as Minuteman Missile Launch Instructor. In 1971, Captain Luter married Marie Young of Greenville, Mississippi. In 1972 Emmette and Marie returned to Tylertown where he transformed Luter's Supply into a well-known plumbing fixture and supply business. Mr. Luter was one of the original members of the Board of Directors at Walthall Citizens Bank. He was an active member of Tylertown Baptist Church, and the American Legion Post 56-Tylertown, and a former member of Tylertown Rotary Club. As he did with his church and civic commitments, Emmette also lived actively in his personal life participating as a weightlifter, a runner, a Black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a competitive bench rest shooter, and a hunter. Emmette was well-known and well-loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marie Young Luter; their two sons Max and his wife Kristi, and Chad and his wife Jennie; granddaughters Eva-Marie, Julia-Ruth, and Emma Leigh; brothers Dwight Luter and wife Ellen, Mickey Luter, and Kent Luter; niece Lauren Luter; nephews Brandon and Jason Luter; and his extended family--the employees of Luter's Supply.
Pallbearers were Wayne Bullock, Dean Greer, Fred Johnson, Timothy Jones, Dave Mann, and Paul Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jack Bacot, David Bahm, Steve Bahm, T W Bearden, Al Ellzey, Ty Harvey, Robert Jones, Mel Luter, Dr. Harish Madnani, Travis Marbury, Chester Moore, Dr. Norman Ott, Bobby Pope, Ted Rhodus, Winston Smith, Danny Trusty, and the Members of the TBC Corporate Sunday School Class.
Visitation was at Capps Funeral Home on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5 -8 P.M. and at Tylertown Baptist Church on Friday, from 10 A.M. until service time there at 11 A.M.
