She and her husband Bill founded McElveen's Fish & Barbeque in 1981.   They owned and operated the restaurant for 37 years until her illness forced her retirement at the end of September 2018.  She developed most of the recipes used and was especially honored to have the restaurant featured in the Back Road Bistro section in in the 2016 May/June issue of Mississippi Magazine.

Family was very important to her.  She enjoyed watching her six grandchildren growing up.  She was involved with all of them and proud of their accomplishments. She didn't want them to miss any school for any reason including her funeral services.
