Mrs. Hughes passed away at her daughters' residence in Jackson, Mississippi on Friday, November 20, 2020. She was born June 9, 1942 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Bertilde and Daniel Pittman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Wilton Hughes and son Donald Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a lifetime member of New Zion Baptist Church and attended Redemption Church in Madison, MS this past year. She was the President of the University of Mississippi Candlelighters for many years, raising money for families affected by childhood cancer. Glyndon taught her children to give back to their community and to leave this world better than they found it. She had a small home daycare in Jackson, MS where she probably helped raise more than 50 children over her lifetime. Her family meant everything to her and she enjoyed spending her time cooking for them and loving on them all her life. She always put God first and her family second. In her last year, she spent many days in the kitchen teaching her granddaughters, Toni and Kaylei, how to cook some of her famous recipes.
Survivors include her children LaDona (Todd) Peterson, Ronald (Sue) Hughes, and Timothy (Melissa) Hughes; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Sherry Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
Pallbearers are Devon Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Daniel Hughes, Kyle Hughes, Michael Hughes, and Ben Spears.
Visitation will be at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 10:00 AM until service time at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers memorials should be sent to the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 12 Laird-Pittman Rd, Tylertown 39667 or UMMC Candlelighters.
