Funeral services for Hilda M. Blackwell, 89, of Tylertown, MS will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Tylertown Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Blackwell, Reverend Justin Knight, and Reverend Glenn Martin officiating. Burial will be in the New Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Blackwell passed away peacefully at her home in Tylertown, Mississippi on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was born January 5, 1930 in Jayess, Mississippi to the late Ada and Enoch Martin. She was the third of six children. Gentle, kind, meek, and generous, Hilda was always looking for ways to serve others. A devoted pastor's wife, she served with dignity and faithfulness alongside her husband for 50 years in a dozen communities. Family oriented, she loved her family dearly. Faithful to remember birthdays and special events with hand written cards, Hilda made everyone feel valued and treasured. She cherished family gatherings and filled her home with warmth and wonderful meals every chance she had. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will always be remembered as the sweetest GG there ever was!
She was also preceded in death by her sister Edna King and brothers Paul Martin, Reverend Lamar Martin, and Carl Martin.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years Reverend Joseph Blackwell; daughters Sharon (Vic) Johnston, Wanda (Hugh) Plunkett, Anita Jo (Ray) Wright, and Susan "Scooter" (Robert) Ellis; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Reverend Glenn (Pat) Martin; sister-in-law Bonita Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
Pallbearers are Ky Johnston, Vince Johnston, Davy Johnston, Joey Plunkett, Brayden Jenkins, Caleb Wright, Zach Wright, Josh Wright, and Colby Ellis.
Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons
Visitation will be at Hartman Hughes Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. And also, on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Tylertown Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until service time at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Mission:Dignity, a ministry of GuideStone Financial Resources that provides financial assistance to retired Southern Baptist pastors or their widows living on low incomes. Mission:Dignity currently serves 1700 people nationwide of which 60% are widows. In MS there are 125 recipients, 80 are widows.
