Obituary

Iva Patten Mize passed away peacefully at her home in Tylertown, MS with her beloved husband and daughter waiting for her at the gates of Heaven. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was born and raised in Walthall County as one of eight children. She enjoyed the small town life, always active in her community and church, Tylertown Baptist. She worked as a secretary at Trustmark in Tylertown for many years.

She and her husband, the late James Mize, shared 61 wonderful years together. Her pride and joy was her daughter, the late Belinda Mize Dyar. She and Belinda shared a special bond that carried them throughout their lives. She loved being "Mamaw" to her three grandchildren, Justin, Clayton, and Laura Lee. She treasured her time with them, always up for a sleepover or a trip out of town. She was always present for every moment, big or small.

She knew and loved the Lord and instilled her faith in her family. She loved music and worship, and was an active part of the church choir and spent many days playing hymns on her piano at home. She was a shining example of a Godly woman and mother.

Iva never went a day without getting gussied up. She took pride in her beauty and fashion, and thought a day spent at the hair salon was a day well spent. She was all sass in the best and most beautiful way. Getting dressed-up never stopped her though, as she loved to work in her yard. You could find her raking and gardening every day, without fail.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care given to Iva, and also to her caretaker, Rachel, who has been such a blessing to the family and to Iva.

She was preceded in death by her husband James E Mize; daughter Belinda Mize Dyar; father Byron E. Patten; mother Ovie O. Fortenberry Patten; brothers Wesley Patten, Wilson Patten, and B. E. Patten, Jr.; sisters Wilder P. Magee, Lila P. Goodwin, and Iris P. Griffin.

Survivors include her sister Charlene P. Stringer; son-in-law Scott Reed Dyar; grandsons Justin Reed Dyar (Kaleigh) and Clayton James Dyar (Taylor); granddaughter Laura Lee Dyar Wand (Curtis); great grandchildren Hadlee Claire Wand, James Elliott Dyar, Jack Reed Dyar, John Walker Dyar and Ellis Brooke Dyar; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
