Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. James E. Rushing, 97, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Mark Wicker, Ricky Grey, and Micah Rutland officiating. Burial will be in the Boyd Cemetery in Salem.

Mr. Rushing passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born September 27, 1920 in Salem, Mississippi to the late George Washington and Ina Mae Rushing Rushing.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters Zelma Conerly, Louise (John) Sorrell, Mandy Lea (Winston) Bracey, and Lucille (Don) Bowman.

He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and had served in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Rushing was a tractor mechanic retired from Southern Tractor (formerly Mitchell) in Tylertown. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mary Alice Smith Rushing; son Elbert (Karen) Rushing; daughter Bernita (Neal) Ward; grandchildren Chad Ward, Cody Ward, and Heath Alford; great-grandchild Tripp Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bob Allen Bracey, Heath Alford, Kenneth Anthony, Chad Ward, Cody Ward, and Andy Elkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Bracey, Brent Bracey, Bobby Stephens, Ray Ferguson, Rex Conerly, Alan Ferguson, and Speedy Andrews.

Visitation will be at Salem Baptist Church on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time there at 11:00 A.M.
