Obituary

Funeral Services for Mr. Jim Payne, 80, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Capps Chapel.  Burial will be in Tylertown Cemetery.

Mr. Payne passed away at Canon Hospice in Gulfport, Mississippi on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.  He was born October 16, 1937 to the late  Jesse Nelson and Leila Bennett Payne.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Louis Payne; brothers Ralph Payne, Roger Payne, Wayne Payne; and sister, Mary Helen Payne.

Mr. Payne graduated from Mississippi State University, with a degree in Civil Engineering, in 1960.   He began work for the Frisco Railroad in 1961 and moved to Freeport McMoRan in 1976.  He was a member of the order of the Masons.  He was an avid reader and particularly loved Westerns.   He also enjoyed working outside, continuing to survey land after retiring.

Survivors include his daughters Tamara Payne Tolar and Renee Payne Lampkin; brothers Donald Payne, Jesse Nelson Payne Jr., Percy Albert Payne, and Charles Lawrence Payne; sisters Peggy Payne Bealer, Elsie Payne Sutton, Katherine Payne Peneguy, Sue Payne Guillory,  Diane Payne Patten, and Barbara Payne Delnero; grandchildren Keely Tolar Hollern, Logan Van Tolar, Allison Claire Lampkin, Spencer Payne Lampkin and Jackson Harvey Lampkin; great-grandchildren Porter Tullos Hollern, Bennett Sibley Hollern, Brycen James Tolar, and Addylin Mae Tolar.

Visitation will be at Capps Funeral Home on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 12:00 Noon until service time there at
2 P.M.

Capps Funeral Home of Tylertown, Mississippi in charge of the arrangements.
