Jimmie E. Mitchell

May 9, 1944 – November 2, 2025

Jimmie E Mitchell, 81, of Houma, LA passed away November, 2, 2025. He was born May 9, 1944 in Lumberton, MS to the late Harold and Doris Mitchell. Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by step-mother, Rae Mitchell; step-sister Patrice Brumfield;  brother Mike Mitchell; sister-in-law, Barbara Mitchell; and nephew, Kevin Mitchell.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at Capps Funeral Home, 270 Old Hwy 98 East, Tylertown, MS 39667 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM with Bro. Ben Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery. Capps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Jimmie graduated from Tylertown High School; from there he received a B.S. Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Masters in Education from Nicholls State University, post graduate from Louisiana State University, University of Virginia, and the University of New Orleans. Prior to being employed by New Orleans Public Schools he taught Biology in Houma, LA and served as a high school counselor in Spotsylvania, VA. Mr. Mitchell was also was employed by American Express Company. After returning to Houma, LA he was employed by the Terrebonne Parish School Board for one year as a counselor. Mr. Jimmie served as a volunteer at Terrebonne General Hospital.

Survivors include his nephew, Chris (Courtney) Mitchell; great-nephew Bro.Benjamin Mitchell and  Donavon Mitchell; great-niece, Abbie Mitchell; step-brother Dr. Buddy (Susan) Nichols;; and a host of step-nieces, step-nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Chris Mitchell, Ben Mitchell, Tom Ladet, Ronald Pellegrin, Andy Hughes, and Donavon Mitchell.
