Jimmy Rex McKenzie, 84, of Tylertown, MS passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born April 6, 1942 in Tylertown, MS to the late Edward McKenzie and Irma McKenzie Burns. Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Paulette McKenzie.

He was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church. Mr. McKenzie was a hardworking man who started out in the oilfield and then later owned Jim’s Welding Shop alongside his wife for 25 years. Outside of working he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and with his k-9 companion Bailey. He also enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his cows.

Mr. Jimmy Rex is survived by his daughters, Kitti Burchfield (Kenny) and Kathy Terrell (Mandy); grandchildren, Derek Burchfield (Janet), Heather McCarthy (Anthony), Taylor Magee (Ashley), and Clancey Bedwell (Drew); great grandchildren, Zoie Burchfield, Alanna Toto, Charles Whittington, Hadley McCarthy, Paisley McCarthy, Layton Magee, Livie Magee, Kage Bedwell, and Karter Bedwell; great great grandchild Gabrial Toto; brother Houston McKenzie; sister Nora Stringer; dog Bailey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loving family.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Burchfield, Derek Burchfield, Taylor Magee, Anthony McCarthy, Matt McKenzie, and Gary Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Brumfield, Ernest Pittman, Nelson McKenzie, and Milton Jackson.

A visitation will be held at Capps Funeral Home, 270 Old Hwy 98 East, Tylertown, MS 39667 on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and again on Friday, July 3, 2026 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM with Bro. Glynn Nace and Bro. Mark Wicker officiating. Interment will follow at Tylertown Cemetery II.
