Funeral services for Joe Lane Pigott, 88, of Tylertown, Mississippi, will be held at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown, MS on Friday, October 20, 2023, with Rev. Wayne Hall and Rev. Donnie Coker officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and will continue until the service at 11:00am. Burial will be followed in the Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Tylertown MS. He died October 18, 2023 at The Claiborne in McComb, MS.
Mr. Pigott was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, Veterinary Services Division, and also from the Mississippi Board of Animal Health having served over 56 years with these agencies as a Compliance Officer.
He was a graduate of Southwest Mississippi Jr. College in Summit, Mississippi and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Mason, a Shriner, a Sojourner, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling and combined these activities on numerous cruise ships. He also owned and operated a beef cattle farm in the Silver Creek Community.
Pigott was born March 1, 1935, son of William Otis Pigott and Loice Hannah Brumfield Pigott of Tylertown, Mississippi, both of whom proceeded him in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Nell Pigott Strittman and her husband Jesse Strittman and Helen Sue Pigott, all of Tylertown; a niece, Loran Walters Gerald and her husband Barry Gerald of Summit, and her children, Shelby Cook Turnage of Chamblee, Georgia and Thomas Corey Cook of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Corey Cook, Barry Gerald, Gary McKenzie, James Hall, Brandon "Bubba" Meyers, J.D. Lightell and Honorary Pallbearer, Frankie Delancey.
