Obituary

John C. Barrett, Jr.

August 11, 1935 – August 11, 2026

Dr. John C. Barrett, 90, departed this life on August 11, 2026. He was born August 11, 1935 to John Clifton Barrett, Sr. and Nita Floyd Barrett, both of whom have preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by a son, Rickey Barrett, and by a brother, Larry A. Barrett.

John enjoyed a successful dentistry career which spanned over 56 years. He graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1959 and began his career in the U. S. Navy, meeting the dental needs of his comrades. While serving as an officer, he earned numerous awards and medals for his outstanding marksmanship achievements. He has since been an outspoken advocate for Second Amendment Rights, and his devotion to excellent dental care has won him acclaim with his patients, not only locally, but also in surrounding communities.

John was an avid sportsman with a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing, camping, canoeing, boating, water skiing, and flying his private plane. He particularly loved sharing his love of hunting and fishing with his grandsons. He also enjoyed woodworking and was an accomplished craftsman, having created several fine pieces of furniture through the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly, of 51 years and by two sons, a daughter, and their spouses: Todd and Melanie Barrett of Madison, MS; Chris and Dawn Barrett of Tylertown, MS; and Yvette and Keith Holmes also of Tylertown, MS. He is also survived by a brother and his wife, Louis A. and Linda Barrett of St. Bernard, LA, five grandsons, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Chad Ginn and John’s grandsons, Kip Barrett, Spencer Barrett, Caleb Barrett, Taylor Barrett, and Alexander Barrett. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Thomas, Mark Binkley, and Kelvin Thomas.

Visitation will be held at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, 412 Beulah Ave., Tylertown, MS 39667, on August 13, 2026, from 9:30A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Jim Ennis officiating. Interment will follow at Knoxo Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
