Funeral services for Mr. John P. Fortenberry, 80, will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from the Crystal Springs Baptist Church. The Reverend Danny Stevens will officiate. Mr. Fortenberry, a resident of Tylertown, died at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
He was born October 9, 1937 in Walthall County, the son of the late Percy Irvin and Charlene Traylor Fortenberry. He was a public school educator, a member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church, and served in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Boyd Fortenberry.
Mr. Fortenberry is survived by one son, Damon and wife, Sundi Fortenberry of Mandeville, Louisiana. One daughter, Jennifer and husband, Jim Fortenberry of Tylertown. A special friend, Judy Haddox of Columbia. His step-mother, Olean Easterling of Tylertown. One sister, Mickie Fortenberry of Tylertown. Three grandchildren: Sydney Fortenberry, Ava Fortenberry, and Charlotte Bardwell. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be: Frank Gennin, Todd Fortenberry, Drew Rayburn, Steve Miller, John Wayne Rinkle, and Randy Sumrall. Honorary pallbearers will be the Crystal Springs' Men's Sunday School Class.
Burial will be in the Crystal Spring Cemetery with Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
