A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Joseph "Joe" Michael Smet, 51, will be held at 11 A. M. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fathers Brian Kaskie and Tommy Conway officiating. Burial will be in the Rushing Cemetery.

Mr. Smet passed away at on Monday, October 30, 2017 in Pike County, Mississippi. He was born March 31,1966 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to the late Edward William and Katherine Agnes Sangassan Smet. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister Betty Smet; parents-in-law Robert Earl and Dixie Mae Taylor Thomas; nephew Jason Goolsby; and brothers-in-law Joe Roberts and Charles Warner.

He attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb and was a salesman for Agri-AFC in Magnolia. He coached and umpired baseball for the local little leagues for many years. He enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, fishing, and listening to music. He was an avid Steelers fan. Joe loved his family and will be deeply missed by them all.


Survivors include his wife Jackie Thomas Smet; sons Jeremy Woodard, Chance Smet, and Bradey Smet; brothers Edward William Smet, Jr. and James Sangassan Smet (Jackie); sisters Katherine Goolsby (Don), Sylvia Roberts, Patricia Sheffler (Lew), and Vicki Newman (Eric), brother-in-law Troy Thomas (Judy); sisters-in-law Carolyn Sutton (Hamilton) and Wanda Valure (Antonia); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 5 -8 P.M.
