Obituary

Lee Webster Thornhill, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at his home in Tylertown, Mississippi. He was born on June 24, 1938 in Pike County, Mississippi to his parents, Lee Webster (Webb) Thornhill, Sr. and Donis Alyne Hall Thornhill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Kay Alford Thornhill.

He graduated from Tylertown High School and earned his B. S. degree from Mississippi State University in 1965. Shortly after graduation he married his college sweetheart, Betty Jean Morgan.

Mr. Thornhill was a veteran with the Army National Guard and worked for the Department of Defense as a retail accountant specialist with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).

He was an ordained deacon and member of Tylertown Baptist Church, the Gideon International, the American Legion Post #56, and served as treasurer for the Walthall County Baptist Association for 22 years. He also volunteered with the Walthall County Food Pantry, and served on its Board of Directors.

In his spare time, he enjoyed re-caning chairs for his family, friends, and the public. He loved to travel with his wife as they visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, and supporting his alma mater, Mississippi State University.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean Morgan Thornhill: sons, Lee Thornhill, III (Cindy), Michael Thornhill (Katrina), and Scott Thornhill (Christina); nine grandchildren, Chelsea Tully (Garrett), Amber Johnson (Darian), Travis Thornhill (Jamie), Morgan Thornhill, Kallie Thornhill, Katelyn Thornhill, Dr. Ashley McCullough (Dr. Sean McCullough), Cody Thornhill, and Trevor Thornhill; four great grandchildren, Brayden Tully, Kellan Thornhill, Denver Tully, and Decklyn Johnson; brother, John W. Thornhill (Martha); along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM until memorial service at 11:00 AM at Tylertown Baptist Church 49 Tyler Ave, Tylertown, Mississippi 39667. Burial will follow in the Rushing Cemetery. Reverend Justin Knight will officiate.
