Marcus Erskine Ward, 78, of Tylertown, MS passed away on August 26, 2026, at Forrest General Hospital. He was born in Freeport, TX on March 30, 1948, to the late Martin E. Ward and Vesta Mozille Pruett Ward. Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy Ray Ward and Wendell Don Ward.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Connie Ruth Bennett Ward; daughters, Leslie Allison Ward Cavin (Dustin) and Ginger Annette Ward Miller (John); grandchildren, Emma Nicole Cavin, Lucas Andrew Cavin, Katelyn Elaine Miller, and Audrey Beth Miller; siblings, Keith Ward, Frances Sue Ward Socha (James), and Franky Ward: along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

When Mr. Ward attended high school in Texas, he was a very skilled football player that received countless awards; such as one of the state Top 50; and was featured in local articles. During high school he also discovered his love for playing many different instruments. Later in life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking with his grandchildren. The legacy of his encouragement and strong passion for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be shown over generations to come. That was his selfless goal to bring as many as he could to knew Jesus.

Visitation will be held at Tylertown Baptist Church, 409 Tyler Ave, Tylertown, MS 39667, on Thursday, September 03, 2026, from 10:30 AM until funeral service at 11:30 AM with Reverend Justin Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Church Cemetery. Hartman Hughes Capps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
