Marvin Lee Harvey

December 24, 1925 – May 22, 2020

Graveside services for Marvin Lee Harvey, 94, of Jayess, Mississippi will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Sartinville Cemetery with Rev. David Hedden officiating.

Marvin Lee Harvey passed away at New Dawn Retirement Home in Lincoln County, Mississippi on Friday, May 22, 2020. He was born December 24, 1925 in Sartinville, Mississippi to the late Lillie Mae Peavy Harvey and Vaught Benny Harvey. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers J.M. Harvey, Benny Harvey, and 5 sisters Lorene Martin, Lurlene Dyess, Myrna Slaughter, Hilda Haney, and Joyce Dixon and grandson Gabriel Q. Mulligan.

After working for Exxon over thirty years, Marvin retired to a life on his farm with Betty. He enjoyed raising cattle and being on a tractor, but he hunted, fished, and played with the grandchildren whenever possible.  Marvin and his brother Jerry always managed to plant a garden large enough to provide vegetables for the community. But he always looked forward to Sundays. He loved meeting with his Christian friends, his men's Sunday School class, and the kids asking for peppermint. He loved the Lord. Although he rarely spoke of it, his family is proud of his service in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Betty Ruth Day Harvey; 2 daughters Ruth (J.C.) Stringer and Vicki (Shannon) Mulligan; 2 brothers Jerry (Mary) Harvey and Richard (Peggy) Harvey; 5 grandchildren Adam Bacot, Alexander Mulligan, Decklin Mulligan, Aidan Mulligan, Gabriella Mulligan; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family at New Dawn Retirement Home.

Pallbearers are Donald Martin, Perry Martin, Lynn Harvey, Douglas Knight, Greg Harvey, Darrel Dixon, Paul Dixon, and Austin Knight.
