Mary Lamenda
Simmons
February 14, 1931 – January 9, 2019
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lamenda Simmons, 87, of Tylertown, MS will be held at 10:00 A. M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Mesa Baptist Church with Bro. Matt Robison officiating. Burial will be at the Silver Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons passed away at her home in Tylertown, MS on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. She was born February 14, 1931 in Tylertown, MS to the late Elijah M. Pigott and Alberta Fortenberry Pigott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-one years, John P. Simmons and brothers, Arthur, Alcus, Herman, Winston, Wilkie, Aaron, E. J. Carey, and infant brother also sisters, Lillie Brock, Sara Marcev and Eunice Pigott.
Lamenda enjoyed life to the fullest with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! She answered to many names, Miss. Mary, Lamenda, Mrs. Simmons, Mother, Mama, Memaw, Grandma, Maw Maw, Mom,and Miss Sassy. But our favorite was Miz Astor as she was dubbed by her loving brother Al many years ago! No matter which one you used, she always answered and was there for you! After retiring from the banking industry, she loved to travel; maybe that is why her email address was "grandmaonthego"! One of her more memorable trips was to Alaska with her church group where she had the opportunity to teach Bible School. She loved sharing her Lord and Savior with others especially children. She was active in many community and civic groups with the Historical Society and Friends of the Library being two of her favorites. She enjoyed sewing, reading, working in her flower beds and teaching her family how to cook. She will be missed by all of us and we will always cherish the many wonderful memories we experienced forever.
Surivors include her children John (Rita) Simmons, Janice (Pat) McKellar, and Myrna (Stewart) Kallam; grandchildren Rachel (Charlie) Galdino, Michael (Ali) Simmons, Mary (Dave) Jackson, Janice (Thomas) Dudley, Edward (Ericka) McKellar, Dr. Lamenda Kallam DVM, and Amelia Kallam; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Thomas Dudley, Michael Simmons, Edward McKellar, Dave Jackson, Charlie Galdino, and Jeremy Buras. Honorary pallbearer will be Peyton Jackson.
Visitation will be at Mesa Baptist Church on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 8:30 A.M. until service time at 10:00 A.M.
