Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Edith Thompson Foil, 94, will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Tylertown Cemetery.
Mrs. Foil passed away at her home in Tylertown, Mississippi on Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was born March 29, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to the late John Stockard Thompson and Grace Gilmour Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Matzic "Buster" L. Foil; son Kenneth P. Foil; and sisters G. Isabella Kerr and Olive A. Gableman.
She was a graduate of Colorado State University and Louisiana State University. She was a librarian and teacher retired from Colorado, Kansas City Public Library, Topeka Tilton School, Dexter High School and Tylertown Schools. Mrs. Foil was a member of Tylertown United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School classes from kindergarten to adult, played the piano for the children's choir and Vacation Bible School, and the organ for Sunday Worship. She was a member of the WSCS, the Wesleyan Service Guild and the United Methodist Women, where she served as leader and coordinator for many of the years after retiring from teaching school. She was a charter member of the local MEA and a member of the Friends of the Library, the Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Walthall County Chapter of DAR. Mrs. Mary was also a member of different Rook Clubs and later joined the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include one daughter Sandra Bagget and husband Dr. Horace Baggett, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and two sons David L. Foil and wife Melissa of Lampasas, Texas, and J. Branton Foil and wife Alicia of Tylertown; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends during a memorial luncheon at Tylertown United Methodist Church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tylertown United Methodist Church or the Tylertown Friends of the Library in the name of Mary Foil.
