Obituary

Norma Lee Vince Pigott

May 17, 1934 – January 7, 2023

Norma Lee Vince Pigott, was born Thursday, May 17, 1934 at home in Vincetown, Mississippi

to J. Leamos and Hezzie Vince weighing a mere 2lbs. She loved to tell the story of her grandmother having to make her a dress out of a flour sack and her bed a dresser drawer and it was to big so she ended up in a shoebox and being fed with a medicine dropper.

She passed from this life Sat. Jan. 7, 2023 into the arms of Jesus at 2:30 PM at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; she was 88 years old. She accepted Christ as her savior as a young girl at Carson Springs Baptist Church. That is where she developed her love of singing gospel songs. She sang in a girl's trio and years later in a quartet at Knoxo laughingly called "Norma Lee and the ball headed three".  She loved to attend gospel concerts making a yearly trip to Nashville, Tennessee for a gospel singer convention. She married Glen E Pigott August 11, 1965. They enjoyed life on the farm. During hay season she raked hay while Glen baled hay. They both had a love for square dancing, traveling to all the surrounding counties to dance.

Norma Lee was proud of her education. She graduated high school from Dexter High School. She even drove a school bus when she went to Improve school. After graduation she went to Women's College in Hattiesburg now called William Carey University where she earned her BS in education in 1955. She made her career teaching first at Columbia Primary School then at Salem Attendance Center and completing her career at Tylertown Primary School teaching 1 st grade for 30 years. She later subbed and worked with the Barksdale Reading Program for 20 years. She had one daughter Michelle Alexander; they had a special bond, a friendship, confidant, advice seeker, shopping partner, and crafting partner. Then in 1996 the precious granddaughter came along giving life to Pigott farms a whole new meaning; Sarah Michelle was everyone's center of attention. She was our miracle, our rainbow baby, after the loss of Vince Toney. She was so proud of everything Sarah accomplished; especially graduating from her alumni William Carey. She always received her family with forgiveness and grace and we departed with I love you more today than yesterday. She was a member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church where she enjoyed working, serving others at funerals, Vacation Bible School, teaching Sunday School,  or wherever she was needed.

She is survived by her husband Glen E Pigottt, daughter Michelle Alexander and granddaughter Sarah Michelle Alexander, a special great niece Jessica K. Bedwell; great great neice Hanna Bedwell and a special great great nephew Dustin Ard; along with the Pigott and Vince nieces and nephews to many to name.

She is preceded in death by her parents J. Leamos and Hezzie Vince; brother Lavon Vince; son-in-law Keith Alexander; and an infant grandson Vince Toney Alexander. The family would especially like to thank Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for their care. All of our family and friends for your concern; words of encouragement and love.
