Pat Harrison Dier
September 16, 1936 – July 12, 2023
Pat Harrison Dier was born on September 16, 1936 in Walthall County, Mississippi and departed this life on July 12, 2023. He was one of twelve siblings born to Hezzie and Winnie Dier.
Pat learned about hard work at an early age. At seventeen he left home to find work in New Orleans and worked for Kaiser Aluminum for thirty-two 32 years. After retiring he continued working in the oil industry for several years. He made Chalmette his home and lived there for over fifty years until hurricane Katrina. All the while, he never forgot his Mississippi farm boy roots. Pat joked that he didn't want to see another sweet potato the rest of his life as he had eaten so many of them growing up.
Pat was the kindest man who would help anyone and give you the shirt off his back. He was a grand Mason and a member of lodge 428 in Arabi, Louisiana having joined in 1965. He enjoyed hosting Mardi Gras parties at his home, boiling seafood and cooking for friends and family. He was a great gardener and loved sharing his harvest with others. He also enjoyed traveling, cruising and going to the casino. However, his biggest love was his family.
After the summer of 2022, Pat decided that would be his last garden. It had become too much for him. He battled cancer for two years and fought it very courageously.
Pat was preceded in death by the mother of his children Charlene Dier; second wife Vera Dier; father Hezzie Dier; mother Winnie Brock Dier; brothers Harold "Bud" Dier, Horace "Sam" Dier, Homer Dier, Joe Dier, Junior Dier, and O. F. Dier; sisters Doyle Burch, Orvis "T" Lasey, and Evelyn Freeman.
Survivors include his sons Pat Dier, Jr (Krislee) and Joe Dier (Jennifer); grandchildren Jared Dier, Corey Ansley, Jeffrey Dier, Kadi Gilreath (Hiram) and Jordan Maurin (Alex); brother Paul Dier; sister Edna Mae Robertson; great grandchild Rosalie Maurin; faithful companion of many years Marion Stroud and her daughters, Denise McCullough and Fran Conway; their children Mason McCullough, Mary Jewell McCullough, Nathan Conway, and Jake Conway; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aston Court in McComb, along with Enhabit Hospice, his caretakers and nurses who helped him in any way. A special thanks goes to his nurses, Kellie and Kala, and his caretakers, Dorothy Mitchell and Bobbie Fultz.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 1:00 PM at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in 412 Beulah Ave., Tylertown, Mississippi. Burial will follow in the Centerville Church Cemetery at Lexie, Mississippi. Reverend Duane Ball will officiate. Hartman Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-876-3712
