Peggy Jean Bennett, 89, of Tylertown, MS went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. She was born February 7, 1937 in Tylertown, MS to the late Edgar and Era Grubbs. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Glen Grubbs and brother-in-law, Earl Ayers.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 68 years, Homer Bennett; son, Johnny Wayne (Yvonne) Bennett; granddaughters, Sarah Jean Wells (Cole), Brianna Bennett, and Beth Bennett; great grandchildren, Charli Jean Wells and Andi Marie Wells; Sister, Frances Ayers; sister-in-law, Sue Grubbs; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
Mrs. Peggy was a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church where she was baptized in the creek next to it. She worked at Haspel Garment factory where she was placed as the queen one year. Where most people remember her from and where her heart shined is when she worked at the High School and touched many lives through the years as she would always have a kind word, a smile, and always willing to help anyone that needed her. Her hobbies included cooking, baking for which she won 1st place one year at the Dairy Festival and runner up many other years, making sure her yard was always beautiful, growing a garden for her family and friends, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Union Baptist Church,345 Hwy 27 N , Tylertown, MS, on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 9:00 AM until service time at 10:00 AM. Bro. Milard Moak will officiate. Interment will follow at Tylertown Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Cole Wells, Mike Holmes, Chris Holmes, Rickie Dufrene, Rickey Dowell, and Earnest Lewis, Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Grubbs, James Kemp, Jewell Holmes, Joey Lambert, Harold Dean Smith, Byron Montgomery, Raymond VanDan,Robert Ratliff, Billy Wayne Thornhill, and Danny McCallum.
