Our beloved Racine Boyd Magee died on Monday, May 10, 2021, after a heartbreaking four-year period of mental and physical decline inflicted by Alzheimer's Disease.
Racine was born October 19, 1940, in Tylertown, Mississippi, to the late Gracie Belle Boyd and Talmadge Boyd. Her parents were warm and caring and raised her to be the same. Racine possessed a natural ability to talk to anyone, and when you were in her company, you wanted to stay.
It is nearly impossible to talk about Racine without mentioning the love of her life, her late husband, Jack Magee. For more than 58 years, the two were inseparable. Today they rejoice together in Heaven, no doubt walking hand-in-hand once again.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Kerry Gene Magee; and sister, Jean Alford. There is no doubt they are all rejoicing together today.
Racine was an adored daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother — the centerpiece of our family. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, keen sense of humor, and unmatched sense of empathy and kindness. Always supportive and encouraging, she was quick to tell anyone who would listen how proud she was of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren will remember her affectionate hugs, as she surrounded them in love at every opportunity.
Racine is survived by her brother, Everett Boyd; daughter, Sheila Magee Kugler, and her husband, Mark, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; her son, Ricky Magee and his wife, Lisa, of Canton, Georgia; her granddaughter, Brandi Kugler Courrégé, and her husband, Justin, of Acworth, Georgia; her grandson Jeff Magee and his wife, Chelsea, of Canton, Georgia; her grandson Jason Magee and his wife, Dree, of Woodstock, Georgia; and her great-grandchildren Callen Magee, Julianna Magee, Miles Courrégé, Jack Magee, Kate Racine Courrégé, and Cooper Magee.
To know her was to love her. Racine found happiness in spending time with those she loved most, including traveling to Pigeon Forge with Jack for their anniversaries, a good laugh over coffee with friends, playing dominoes and board games with family, and singing in the choir at Crystal Springs Baptist Church. She had a natural gardening ability, and no matter the time of year, there was always something in bloom on Fordsville Road. She relished as a homemaker and, as anyone who had the pleasure of enjoying her chicken and dumplings can attest, she was a fantastic cook. The absence of her desserts leaves a void in the lives of many.
Racine is now free from pain, and our family rejoices in knowing we will see her again in Heaven. Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)
