Obituary

Reuben Reed Herring

March 28, 1940 – July 7, 2024

Reuben Reed Herring, 84 of Tylertown, MS passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was born Thursday, March 28, 1940 in Louisville, MS.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM until service time at 12:00 PM;  Crystal Springs Baptist Church in 941 Hwy 48, Tylertown, MS. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Bro. Danny Stevens will officiate. Capps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

After graduation from Mississippi State he worked for Carnation and as a dairy farmer.  He served as a MS State Legislator and worked for the State of MS as an appraiser before founding his own company, Herring Appraisal & Computer Service.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cruises and traveling as long as his health permitted.  He was nicknamed the "Minute Man" because when he wanted something, he wanted it yesterday.  In 2017 on Thanksgiving Day, he lost his wife Faye and spent every day trying to keep things as she would want them. He wanted the flowers, pool and the cat Callie taken care of as she would want.  Even when required to be in a nursing home for over a year, he saw that she was taken care of.  She spent many hours in his chair with him or laying on his bed when he was confined to it.  His children were his pride and joy.  He was so proud of each of them, as well as the grands and great grands.  He would always plainly say how he loved seeing them arrive, but the tail lights were the prettiest lights at Christmas! He loved sharing details on the progress made by them and what was going on in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Faye Cook Herring; parents R.R. (Dude) & Cornelia Herring, sister Martha Morris, father and mother in-law Tommy and Hazel Cook, brother in-law Bill Cook.

He is survived by his children, Wayne (Kristi) Herring, Cindy (Bruce) Womack, Gwen (Wes) Luckey; grandchildren Olivia (Brad) Barrett, Cody Ferguson, Hanna (Eli) Duran, Karlye (Preston) Jennings, and Katie (Justin) Reynolds; niece Connie (Larry) Smith; brother in-law, Rex Morris; five great grandchildren and twins on the way. He was also very loved and cared for by his sitters, Angela Evans and Brenda Townsend, who loved him very much.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Crystal Springs Baptist Church Memorial Fund (designate Building Fund/Reed Herring on check), c/o Pat Sumrall, 137 Dexter Road, Tylertown, MS 39667.

Pallbearers will be Eli Duran, Brad Barrett, Cody Ferguson, Tim Dunaway, Ray Stringer, and Steve Lott.
