R.J. Ellis

July 16, 1930 – September 29, 2020

Funeral services for R.J. Ellis, 90, of Tylertown, MS will be held at Centerville Baptist Church (Dexter) on Thursday, October 1, 2020 with Brother James Thornhill and Brother Tommy Hudnell officiating. Burial will be at Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery (Dexter).

Mr. Ellis passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. He was born July 16, 1930 in Walthall County, Mississippi to the late Gladys and Jim Ellis. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Devon Ellis and Edgar Ellis.

Mr. Ellis was a member fo Centerville Baptist Church in Dexter where he was a Sunday School teacher and the church treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge and moved his way up to become a Shriner.  He worked at the paper mill until 1964 and then became a dairy farmer until his retirement. Mr. R.J. and his wife Joy traveled all over the United States in their motorhome and even traveled overseas to the Holy Land twice. He was full of life and loved to see the world.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years Joy Ellis; children Peggy (Price) Barnes, Jeffrey (Pam) Ellis, Beverly (Tim) Sumrall; grandchildren  Doyce Barnes, Carla (Casey) Odom, Brandi (Kyle) Kirkland, Amanda (Sean) Porter, Leland (Stephanie) Sumrall, Kristen (Nick) Goings; great-grandchildren Justin Barnes, Adrienne Barnes, Annistyn Odom, Braydon Kirkland, Tyler Porter, Jake Porter, Maddox Goings, Maverick Goings, Dillon Sumrall, and Kori Sumrall; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

Visitation will be at Centerville Baptist Church (Dexter) on Thursday, October  1, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
