June 22, 1935-September 11, 2025
Robert Lee Speaks, 90 of Jayess, MS passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025 at his residence in Jayess, MS. He was born June 22, 1935 in Madison Co. MS to the late Clifton John Speaks and Gladys Reep Speaks. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters Mable Speaks Hamel, Elsie Speaks Halkowski, Anne Speaks Cowart, Louise Speaks Warner and brothers Angelo Speaks and John Speaks.
A memorial service will be held at Sartinville Church on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Visitation starts at 2 pm followed by the service at 3 pm. The address is 4 East Sartinville Rd Jayess, MS 39641.
Robert and wife Betty along young children Jim and Melanie, moved to the Jayess area in 1969, after buying a farm and going into the dairy business. As years went on, additional adjoining property was added along with more and more cattle. The dairy operation continued until mid 2006, then transitioned to a beef cattle operation. Although this was a family business, to Robert it was a dream turned reality through a lot of hard work and long hours. While he did enjoy hobbies such as hunting when younger, his real joy and passion was the farm. He continued to work until his final day.
He also enjoyed going to auctions, traveling and spending valuable down time with family, especially his granddaughters of which he was extremely proud. He was a long time member of Sartinville Church and cherished the many friendships from church and the community. But most important was his Christian faith in our Lord and Savior. He was a great husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by wife of 64 years, Betty Land Speaks, son Jim Speaks (Tiffany) of Jayess, MS and daughter Melanie Speaks of Slaughter, LA. Granddaughters Alycen Speaks of Pensacola, FL, Haley Speaks of Flora, MS and Caroline Speaks of Jayess, MS. Also sister Jessie Mae Addy (Jim) of Brandon, MS. And multiple nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place
Memphis, TN 38105.
