Funeral services for Mr. Robert Earl Vince, 88, of the Improve Community, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday , January 17, 2019 at Carson Springs Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, MS with Rev. Carl Dickens, Rev. Richard Magee, and Rev. Archie Herrin officiating. Burial will be in the Carson Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Vince passed away at residence in Sandy Hook, MS on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. He was born December 19, 1930 in Walthall, MS to the late Wessie and Gladys Vince. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters Lorena Ard, Katie Thomas, Sarah Branch, and Estelle Parish; and brother Willie Vince.
Robert was a member of Carson Springs Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 20 years. In 1953 be became a teacher until his retirement in 1980. Known for his coaching he was inducted into Southwest Community College Sports Hall of Fame. He loved his students and spoke often of the memories made over the years with them. Robert was also a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives for 24 years, a Mason, and Shriner. In his later years his favorite pastime was farming, was an avid dominoes player and spending time with his great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Mary Vince; children Robert "Kim" (Jan) Vince and Melody Stuart; grandchildren Brandi (Jeremy) Crane, Lisa (Hunter) Smith, Kristin (Chris) Singletary, and Bo (Tina) Vince; great grandchildren Connor Crane, Owen Singletary, Collin Singletary, Emma Smith, Hayes Smith, Averie Turnage, Rhyann Clayton, and Addison Clayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and loving friends.
Pallbearers are Bo Vince, Christoper Singletary, Hunter Smith, Jeremy Crane, Clay Vince, and Scott Bond. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Thomas, Darrell McKenzie, Lester Thomas, Larry Tullos, and Javus Branch.
Visitation will be at Hartman Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown, MS on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and on January 17, 2019 at Carson Springs Baptist Church from 12 noon until service time at 2:00 P.M.
