Funeral services for Mr. Thomas C. Byrd, 81, will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday, January 22, 2018 from the chapel of Capps Funeral Home with Bro. Neal Davis and Bro. Billy Barber officiating. Burial will be in the Rushing Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd passed away at University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on Friday, January 19, 2018. He was born October 17, 1936 to the late Byron and Lucille Freeman Byrd. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sons DeWayne Byrd and Wendell Byrd.

He was a member of Sauls Street Baptist Church. Mr. Byrd was retired having worked many years for Coca-Cola and for Wal-Mart. He enjoyed visiting the nursing homes and helping with their activities. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, working with flowers, and wood-working. In his younger years, Mr. Byrd had coached his children in baseball and he still loved to watch his grandchildren play baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Lea Gordon Byrd; sons Kirk (Delores) Byrd, Jeff (Beverly) Byrd, and Robert (Bridgett) Byrd; brothers Bobby Byrd, Mac (Carol) Byrd, and Freeman (Vicki) Byrd; sisters Reba Lois (Ed) Montoya, Imogene (Jim) Galloway, Judy (Paul) Carter; grandchildren Katie Byrd, Matt Byrd, Susie Byrd, Jason Byrd, Tony Byrd, Chandler Byrd, Chris Byrd, and Courtney Byrd; numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be at Capps Funeral Home on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 11 A.M. till service time there at 2 P.M.
