Obituary

Toney Carmen McDaniel

8/21/1939- 3/15/2022

Toney Carmen McDaniel, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, from 11:00 – 2:00 at Hartman Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown, Mississippi with funeral services beginning at 2:00pm and the burial immediately following at Centerville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Dexter.

Mr. McDaniel was born August 21, 1939 in Magnolia Mississippi.  He graduated from Salem High School. Toney married the love of his life, Mary Lou Thomas (whom he affectionately called "Moo") in 1963 and they began their family in Baton Rouge. He served nine years in the National Guard. After returning to the Dexter, Mississippi community in 1968 he began a 42 year career of transporting milk. Toney spent the last of his trucking years hauling for Turnage Trucking until he parked his last tanker truck and retired in 2010. He's remembered as never missing a day while working 7 days a week come rain, shine, sleet or flat tire. Toney was a member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church.

Toney was quick with a story about the good old days and was a loyal friend to many across Walthall County.  His favorite time of the day was spent drinking coffee at Dexter Grocery with the "breakfast biscuit bunch" where they solved all the world's problems. Toney possessed a rich baritone voice and in his younger years he sang vocals in a band made of family & friends – they called their band the Road Bandits. Toney was fiercely proud of his two sons, Mickey and Mike. He loved gardening alongside Mickey each spring and enjoyed all the simple things of life such as westerns, fried catfish, music, and, most importantly, time with his brothers and sister at the McDaniel family gatherings where food was overflowing and laughter was great.

Toney is preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Carmen McDaniel; his wife Mary Lou McDaniel; brother Stanley McDaniel (sister in law Marie)Norman McDaniel ( sister in law Joyce).  He is survived by his sons Mickey McDaniel (Ruth Anna)  and Mike McDaniel (Robyn);  grandchildren Blake McDaniel (Kayla), Ashley Douglas (Clint); step grandchildren Allison Hancock, Adam Plummer (Julie), Ashley Lofland (Myles), Morgan Plummer; great grandchildren Aliyah McDaniel, Grace McDaniel, Waylon Douglas; step great grandchildren Maynard Hancock, Jackson Hancock, Mattie Lofland, EmmaJane Hancock, Eli Lofland; sister Ann Baughman, brothers Tommy McDaniel (Dorothy) and Dickey McDaniel (Jo Ann); and a host of nieces, nephews friends, and loving family. Special love and thanks goes to Valerie Jerrell for the many years of love, friendship, Dr's appointments, family meals and time spent with Toney. He thought of her as the daughter he never had.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne McDaniel, David McDaniel, Bobby Cheeks, Thomas Spence, Ronald Lowry, and Dana Sumrall. Honorary pallbearers will be Cameron McDaniel, Mack McDaniel, Gerald McDaniel, and the Dexter Grocery Breakfast Biscuit Bunch.
