Mrs. Uta Grubbs passed away on Sunday, July 19 ^th , 2020 at Diversicare of Tylertown.  She was born in Tylertown on September 15 ^th , 1925 to the late Henry W. and Velma Smith Holmes.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Grubbs.

A 1943 graduate of Tylertown High School, Mrs. Grubbs received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Louisiana State University in 1947.  She returned to Tylertown and taught piano in the Walthall County School System for many years.  In 1972, she began teaching piano at Walthall Academy until her retirement.  She was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and many of her students always placed as National Finalists in the National Piano Playing Auditions.  She was also a supporter of the Community Concert Series in McComb.

Mrs. Grubbs also served as an accompanist for Tylertown Baptist Church for over 60 years.  She began as the pianist before being graduated from high school and later she became the organist.  She played for numerous weddings and funerals in the community and was also awarded the Ilene Jaubert Award.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, watching LSU football, playing card games and Mexican Dominoes.

Mrs. Grubbs is survived by her daughter, Paulette (Fred) Johnson, Grandchildren:  Paul Johnson and Jennifer (Chad) Luter, and Great-granddaughter, Emma Leigh Luter all of Tylertown.

Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, July 22 ^nd , 2020 at the Tylertown Cemetery.  The Reverend Justin Knight will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tylertown Baptist Church Music Fund.
