Obituary

William Allen "Bill" Sartin  Sr.

March 16, 1951- April 2, 2025

William Allen "Bill" Sartin, Sr., 74 of Tylertown, MS passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was born Friday, March 16, 1951 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late John Ray and Elise Sartin. Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his son Bill Sartin Jr. and  daughter Brooke McNeese.

Visitation will be held at Crystal Springs Baptist Church, 941 Hwy 48, Tylertown, MS, on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM until service time at 12 noon with Bro. Danny Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Hartman Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bill played football at SMCC and transferred to ULM as a place kicker. He earned his B.S. from USM and began teaching at Dexter High School where he was an assistant football, girls and boys basketball, and track coach.  After DHS, he served as an assistant coach at Franklinton High School where the Demons played for a state championship in the Superdome.

Upon leaving coaching, Bill began his career  as a USPS rural letter carrier at Sandy Hook, MS, where he retired after 30 years. He loved visiting with friends along his route and enjoyed their special goodies.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed playing basketball, softball, and golfing. He loved working in his garden and tending to the cows on the farm and at Steve's place. He eagerly awaited the arrival of his martins each year and would sit in the swing mornings and afternoons fascinated by their swooping over the pond.

Bill looked forward to rambling rides on back  roads, day trips to tour and to eat, of course, and trips to Branson with David Earl and Becky. Yet, he always loved coming home to the place. The dog "that he didn't want" and that he would never openly admit that he loved, sweet Willow-Kinley's mini-golden doodle-captured his heart.

He especially treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren hunting and fishing. If the grandchildren had an event of any kind, Papaw was always there cheering them on. On Friday nights, he was in the press box at Bogue Chitto helping Gareth call plays.

The kids loved his homemade ice cream, French toast, Boston butts, and waffles. He was thrilled that his children made these for their families and carried on a family tradition. Visits, weekly phone calls, hugs, and a kiss from his children and grandchildren warmed his heart and were his riches on Earth, his greatest joys, blessings, and memories.

Bill was saved, baptized as a young junior boy, and remained a life-long member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He sang in the church choir and the Four for Christ quartet. Bill formerly led the Walthall County Brotherhood as its director.

Bill never met a stranger.  He would engage anyone in conversation.  Once he knew you, you became his friend.  Above all, Bill loved Jesus, his church, and his family.  His grin, his laughter, and his love  will live in our hearts and memories forever until someday, heaven.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Amy Felder Sartin;  son, Gareth Sartin (Jessica);  grandchildren, Madison Reaves (Austin), Morgan  Sartin, Will Sartin, Felder Sartin, Easton Sartin and Kinley McNeese;  brothers, Johnny Sartin and Walter Wexler;  sister, Sue Ellen May;  great grandchildren, Beau Reaves and Sam Reaves;  nephews, Scott Sartin, Michael Sartin, Christopher May, Jordan Wexler, and Nicholas May;  nieces, Wendy Nicks and Callie Dismukes;  son-in-law, Adam McNeese;  daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann Sartin;  sister-in-law, Karen Felder; along with a host of cousins, friends and loving family.

Pallbearers will be Will Sartin, Felder Sartin, Easton Sartin, Jordan Wexler, Christopher May,  Scott Sartin, Nicholas May, and Steve Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow deacons at CSBC: David Earl Lee, Mike Laird, Bruce Knippers, Jimmy Lowery, Rod Ervin, and Scott Luper; and the Adult Men's Sunday School.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to Crystal Springs Baptist Church building fund in Tylertown, MS  or Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson.
