Funeral services for William Lawrence Magee, 89, of Tylertown, MS will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Lacy officiating. Burial will be at the Crystal Springs Cemetery in Dexter, MS.
Mr. Magee passed away at his residence in Tylertown, Mississippi on Sunday, June 2, 2019. He was born February 26, 1930 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Vivian and Otis Magee. He was also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Magee, and 3 sisters Nell Magee, Faye Bailey, and Sara Magee.
Mr. Magee was a member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church, 3 rd District Fire Department, the American Dairy Association of Mississippi and was on the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau. He received Outstanding Young Farmer of Walthall County in 1964, Outstanding Farm Family in 1966, and Outstanding Grain Farmer in 1974. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. William was an avid hunter, sportsman, and loved his Dexter football and softball.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Mary Magee, his son Perry Magee, his two daughters Peggy (Eddie) Bates, and Polly (Arlen) Patten; granddaughters, Brooke Crawford, Lauren (Sparks) Wilson, Kimberly Patten, and Amber (Richard) Butler; grandson Steven (Deidre) Patten; great grandsons Brady Crawford, S.J. Wilson, Hank Wilson, Colt Wilson, Lane Patten, and John Butler; great granddaughters Sadie Wilson, Lily Patten, Isabella Leggett, and Madalynn Leggett; and two sisters Mary-Ruth Lacy and JoAnn Bommer.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Lowery, Bill Pigott, Doug Popwell, Dana Sumrall, Jessie Pigott, and Bruce Knippers.
Honorary pallbearers are Tim Magee, Ken Magee, Mike Pittman, Bill Pittman, Ed Bommer, and Kenneth Johnson.
Visitation will be at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home on Monday June 3, 2019 from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. and also Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at noon.
